The Technology Competency Course

Description

In this unit participants review technologies that support all aspects of facility operations, real estate and employee requirements. These may include, but are not limited to: CAD, CAFM, project management, asset management, cost analysis and other hardware and software systems. In addition FM involvement in infrastructure support for technology such as hardware and software supporting voice, information, data and media operating systems are discussed.
Introduction to FM Technology and Strategic Planning
The first part of this course includes an overview of FM technology. Participants will utilize a comprehensive process to plan, evaluate, implement and manage technology to support core business processes, facility management operations, technical infrastructure and strategic business results.
Evaluation and Selection of Technology
Participants are shown how to define relevant work processes and develop criteria for selecting optimum FM systems. Elements of the course include, use of process analysis, interviewing to identify user requirements, identifying key elements in CMMS/CAFM systems, understanding FM cost analysis and development of a RFP
Implementation and Administration of FM Technology
Participants are guided through identification of components of a technology implementation. Understanding database population, definition of system acceptance criteria, establishment of back up and archiving protocols and planning for technology upgrades form essential elements of the learning
Application and Integration
The unit focuses on identification of maintenance management systems, application to corrective, preventive, predictive, and reliability centered maintenance measures, definition of building automation systems, convergence and/or interoperability goals and Enterprise Resource Planning.
