The Leadership and Management Competency Course

Description

People, places and processes are fundamental in building the FM department. This competency area presents the FM as a planner, organizer, leader, coordinator, and evaluator.  The following skills are reflected in the day-to-day activities of the facility manager

Planning and Organizing the Facility Function
The focus on organisational structure deals with how the department fits into the company as a whole.
Creating a mission for the facility function, assessing business trends, and planning and organizing the function form the objectives of this unit.

Managing Personnel Assigned to the Facility Function
People are a critical resource. Whether they are employees of the company or under contract, facility managers lead and supervise staff. Highlighted skills in the module span all staffing issues including coordination of individuals, contracted services, performance evaluation and personnel development.

Managing the Delivery of Facility Services
The viability of an organization depends on the facility’s ongoing, efficient delivery of services. Since the FM is responsible for managing delivery of services, they must be able to, plan for the delivery of services, assure services are delivered and evaluate service delivery.
